Three-quarter leaves the rear clear so a fold-out tent can deploy off the back of the roof rather than the side. Half length is the quiet option, less wind noise and less weight, and it suits owners who only want somewhere to hang an awning and a solar panel. Tall variants raise the platform to clear a pop top or a high roof conversion.

HZJ78, VDJ78 AND GDJ78 ALL SHARE THE SAME ROOF

Toyota barely touched the Troop Carrier body across three decades, so the gutter spacing on a 1998 HZJ78 is the same as on a 2025 GDJ78. A rack listed for one generation almost always suits the others. Where a listing carries a year-specific note it is usually about roof rail height rather than the mounting itself. Everything clamps to the gutter, so nothing is drilled and nothing is permanent.
